Basic strategy

  1. partition the hard disk with Boot Camp Utility by mounting a dummy Windows 7 DVD
  2. reboot
  3. eject Win7 DVD
  4. insert Vista DVD
  5. choose Vista
  6. run the installer
  7. install drivers

Results

MacBook Air (Mid 2011)
Partial success. Vista installation completed. Almost all the devices recognized when drivers are installed manually. Failed to install Boot Camp Control Panel and to configure TouchPad. You cannot right click. Note: Boot Camp Drivers in Snow Leopard DVD also seem to work.
iMac (Mid 2011)
Failure. Vista installer would not start complaining lack of a driver.
iMac (Late 2012)
Failure. Vista installer freezes at the language and keyboard selection screen.
